Treating Hay Fever with TCM

Free Event
April 18th at the Burnaby Public Library, 7:00 to 8:00 pm

Do you suffer from hay fever? Does your over-the-counter allergy medications have side-effects such as drowsiness and brain fog? Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers a time-tested approach to seasonal allergies.

As part of HANS's free library lecture series, Dr. Kathryn Tian will share how TCM can help reduce those annoying and sometimes debilitating symptoms like runny nose and itchy eyes. Learn how diet, lifestyle, exercise, herbs and Chinese medicines achieve excellent results. We're thrilled to have Kathryn back a second time after her informative presentation last fall on TCM and the flu. Seating is limited so register online (http://www.hans.org/events/?event=HayFever) or by calling 604-435-0512.

Asthma--Find the Cause and Treat the Symptoms

by Dr. Brenda Gill

Four steps to help breathe easy again

Asthma is an increased response of the airways to certain stimuli that are irritants/allergies or sensitivities to that person. This causes broncho-constriction, meaning the narrowing of the breathing passageways, which can lead to shortness of breath, wheezing or a chronic cough and, in some cases, can be life-threatening.

At this time of year, I see many people that are starting to experience reactions to the mould from the melting snow and the dust in the streets and at home, especially if there is a wood stove. Learn four steps to strengthen the immune system so it doesn't over-react and to minimize inflammatory irritants in the environment >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/965/Asthma-Find-the-Cau...

Safety Is a Dangerous Word

by Shawn Buckley, LLB

Most consumers of natural health products have already noticed that products are disappearing. For most it is not a crisis yet. If a product they were using disappears, they can usually find a substitute. Because of this, many are rather complacent.

Some even support the Natural Health Products Regulations that are driving natural products off of the market because they--believe the government's assertion that this is necessary for our "safety." Read why Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA) president Shawn Buckley thinks the word "safety" can be the most dangerous word in the English language >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/960/Safety-Is-a-Dangero...

Genetically Modified Goats on Display at Ottawa Experimental Farm

by the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network

Family Outing Turns to Shock

Young families visiting the Agriculture Museum at the Experimental Farm in Ottawa this weekend were shocked to find two genetically modified (GM) goats among the farm animals on display.

"Seeing the transgenic goats gave me a horrible, sick feeling inside. I just think it's wrong," said Beatriz Oliver, who brought her four-year-old daughter and two-and-a-half-year old son to the farm on Saturday not knowing the GM goats were at the museum. Find more information and see the photos of the GM goats in their retirement home >> http://www.cban.ca/Resources/Topics/GE-Goats

Acupuncture Benefits Stroke

Acupuncture can benefit stroke patients for up to six months after stroke occurs, according to a leading Vancouver traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation specialist. This comes as good news given that a recent national review of hospital records by the Canadian Stroke Network found that Canadian stroke patients aren't receiving care as quickly or as effectively as they could be.

Stroke is a leading cause of death and adult disability in Canada. The longer a delay of treatment after stroke, the greater the potential for brain damage. Learn how acupuncture can help >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/958/Acupuncture-Benefit...
