SmartMeters a hot topic at BC Hydro public meeting

by Lia Fraser

On March 9 in Victoria, BC Hydro held one of their public consultations planned in various BC cities between March and April on various projects and issues. About 250 people attended and at times the debate was heated on the issue of SmartMeters. Read about the meeting and find the dates of future forums where you can participate >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/815/Smart-meters-a-hot-...

Positive energy for a safe outcome at Japanese nuclear plants

by Adam Dreamhealer

As Japan battles the meltdown of its nuclear reactors, we can be proactive by sending our positive intentions to cool them down. Your participation in this visualization is one way of helping to create a safe outcome. Watch this >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTVDCYhTclw

The importance of salt

by Matthias Muschol, HANS member

Lately, we have been reading a lot about how bad salt is for us, and people are thinking that they have to avoid it to be healthy. HANS member Matthiaas Muschol disagrees and, according to the literature he has read, he share his findings here.
The human body cannot function without salt. If every particle of salt were taken from our bodies, we would live about 48 hours. Our very lives depend on it, yet we call it "common salt." Salt has been worshiped; salt has been used as money; salt was once worth its weight in gold. >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/804/The-importance-of-s...

Parliament pressured to stop GM fish: Motion in the House of Commons requests transparency

by Lucy Sharratt, Canadian Biotechnology Action Network

On March 3, in the House of Commons, New Democratic Party Fisheries and Oceans Critic Fin Donnelly tabled a motion asking for transparency and more study before genetically modified (GM) Atlantic salmon are approved for human consumption. AquaBounty has asked the US Food and Drug Administration to approve the GM Atlantic salmon for human consumption but the status of any requests for approvals from the company to the Canadian government are unknown because our federal departments refuse to disclose this information. >> http://www.hans.org/magazine/814/Parliament-pressure...

Conflict of interest, funding information seldom reported in randomized controlled trials: JAMA report

Information concerning funding and author conflicts of interest disclosed in the original reports of randomized controlled trials is rarely disclosed when these data are combined in meta-analyses, according to an article in the March 9 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Read more on this study by Michelle Roseman, BA, of McGill University, Montreal, and colleagues >> http://pubs.ama-assn.org/media/2011j/0308.dtl#2

Dr. Fred Loffler lived a wonderful life

HANS received an email from the BC Naturopathic Association letting us know that longtime naturopathic physician Dr. Fred Loffler passed away on March 4. He was 98. HANS has fond memories of Dr. Fred Loffler, the strongest generated by not even meeting "Fred" but hearing about him frequently. There was no love and admiration as strong as that held by early HANS director and Dr. Loffler's friend, Len Greenall. It usually didn't matter what someone's problem was, that Len would say, "Fred would be telling him to read Toxemia Explained by Tilden and also eat by Loffler's Food Combining Chart". It's been a handout for years, and it is attached under the article here >> http://www.helpinghans.org/show82a/Dr_Fred_Loffler_P...
