Dear Senator Eaton;

You Madam, owe my family a public apology for the pejorative remarks you made in the Senate committee regarding my partner Constitutional Lawyer Shawn Buckley. You particularly owe an apology to my children Shawn-Alexander, Elycia, and Zachary Buckley for your uncalled-for remarks about their father. As your comments were made publicly I certainly expect your apology to be the same.

In addition to a public apology my children also have some questions for you:

My youngest son Zachary would like to know why you were so rude to someone you have never really met? He would also like to know why you have so easily and crudely dismissed informed discussion on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Canadian Constitution, and the Bill of Rights as they are so clearly violated by Bill C-36  as a HOBBY HORSE? He may be 13 years old, but he certainly understands what you, and most of your Conservative peers, have not yet grasped—that Bill C-36 has serious consequences for the Sovereignty of Canada (and Quebec I might add) and the rights and freedoms of the Canadian people. Zach understands as a fully informed Canadian child that Bill C-36 is not about his safety. He also understands that as currently drafted Bill C-36 is a very unsafe piece of legislation.

My daughter Elycia would like to ask why you (and many other Conservative Senators) are pushing Bill C-36 into law without any regard for her constitutional safety and that of her generation?

Finally, our oldest son Shawn-Alexander (age 18) would like to ask you and the other Senator's if you remember that the Senate is supposed to be a chamber of sober second thought. (For some reason he would like me to stress the S-O-B-E-R part). He notes you complained in the committee that you already heard from his father when this present Bill C-36 was the old Bill C-6. He would like to ask you personally what part of his Dad telling you this legislation is not Constitutional that you don't get when it was Bill C-6? This has now become an election issue for my son as he is now old enough to vote.  He would like you to know that he will remember what the Conservative Party did to his Rights and Freedoms with pushing through Bill C-36 when he steps into the voting booth for the first time.

In closing, Senator Eaton perhaps you and your like-minded peers might want to rethink your vote on Monday. Perhaps you might even become a hero for my children and stand up for their rights and freedoms on Monday so that they will be safe from this unsafe legislation. If you are honestly concerned about the safety of Canadian children then put down your political ideologies and do the right thing for my children and vote against C-36 in its entirely. The greatest risk to my children's safety is not a toy from a foreign company, but rather your vote to eliminate the Rule of Law in Canada via Bill C-36.

Might I close with my suggestion to you and your like-minded peers to stop the political rhetoric and instead start doing what is ethical, moral and legal—vote Bill C-36 down in its entirety.

We await your explanation and forthcoming public apology.

Regards,
