Following Health Action Network Society's Annual General Meeting on November 16, 2010, Jaisri Lambert provided a lecture on Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is our oldest healing science dating back to the 10th century. Much more that a healing science, it is the "Science of Life," and as such it is inclusive of mind, body, spirit and, indeed, infinity itself. It includes the philosophy of yoga and has a focus on consciousness, both individuated consciousness and collective consciousness, along with a comprehensive system of medicine dealing with both prevention and treatment.
In her lecture Jaisri took us from the philosophical foundations of Ayurveda through to practical demonstrations of how knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine can provide us with insights into the health and well-being of each of us.
Her lecture covered both one's
Prakruti, your nature from birth, and your
Vikruti or current state of health. Though a questionnaire covering various facets of one's diet and lifestyle Jaisri was able to bring a number of members up to the stage to interactively explore the insights that a knowledge of one's
Vata (air element),
Pitta (fire element) and
Kapha (water element) can have on our health. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this.
Ayurveda was certainly new to many in the audience but Jaisri conducted her lecture with warmth, humour and a vast knowledge that I am sure inspired many. Jaisri appeared to be the physical embodiment of all that she spoke of, radiating happiness and well-being throughout her lecture, making it a pleasure for the entire audience.
Thank you, Jaisri, for this wonderful introduction to Ayurveda. For those who wish to learn more please visit
