The City of Colwood on Vancouver Island is the first Canadian city to officially recognize electromagnetic sensitivity (EMS) by declaring August "EMS Month."
EMS is a chronic illness resulting from exposure to electromagneticemitting technology such as compact fluorescent light bulbs, FM and cell transmitters, and cellular phones and other wireless devices. Symptoms of EMS range from skin problems and headaches to overwhelming fatigue and severe neurological problems.
In a recent Citizens for Safety Technology media release, executive director Una St. Chair-Moniz said, "We urgently request that all levels of elected Canadian government officials act now to protect the Canadian public from the detrimental health effects of continued exposure to electromagnetic pollution, especially in learning institutions and other places where the public congregate with an expectation of safety, such as libraries, recreation and government facilities."
