• Canada is considered the second nation in world oil reserves based on our supply of tar sands.
• Tar sands oil production is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions pollution in Canada.
• The extraction, separation and conversion process from sand to oil requires huge amounts of energy and water.
• Canada's Boreal ecosystems and migratory birds are being severely impacted by tar sands oil production.
• The following Canadian environmental groups have signed a declaration, along with many US groups, calling on the United States and Canada to boost investments in clean energy, halt industrial fishing in the Arctic and freeze expansion of the Alberta's oil sands:
