Monsanto has just announced new research to develop new genetically modified (GM) wheat and industry is now paving the way for approval of GM wheat. But in 2004, GM wheat was rejected by farmers and consumers across the globe.

UPDATES
May 14, 2009: Industry groups in Australia, Canada and the US pledged to "work toward the goal of synchronized commercialization of biotech traits in our wheat crops."
June 1, 2009: CBAN worked with 14 groups from Australia, Canada and the US to issue a joint statement reminding Monsanto and industry groups that GM wheat has been rejected, and reiterating their pledge to stop commercialization.
July 15 2009: Monsanto bought US wheat breeding company WestBred and announced new investments to develop new GM wheat varieties.
