If you are unable to purchase all organic produce, be sure to avoid what the non-profit Environmental Working Group organization calls the "dirty dozen." The following fruits and vegetables are, beginning with the worst, the most contaminated with pesticides and are best avoided unless they have been grown organically:
1. Peaches
2. Apples
3. Sweet Bell Peppers
4. Celery
5. Nectarines
6. Strawberries
7. Cherries
8. Lettuce
9. Imported grapes
10. Pears
11. Spinach
12. Potatoes
