HANS Professional Member Interview: Dr Brian Davies, ND
Source: Website exclusive
Can you tell me about yourself?
I graduated from the University of Victoria, with a focus in nutritional biochemistry, physiology and psychology. I've spent a lot of time volunteering with adolescents, geriatrics and patients of the Victoria Arthritis Society.
My post-graduate studies were completed at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. I practice family medicine with special interests in hormonal, auto-immune, gastrointestinal and degenerative conditions such as cancer.
What's your healing philosophy?
I have a strong belief that the body has the power to heal itself and that people's lifestyles play a key role in health management. I focus primarily on prevention of disease when possible and lifestyle modifications, adding nutritional, botanical and homeopathic interventions as needed. My focus is to help empower each individual person with new skills to achieve their health goals.
What's your favorite hobby?
I enjoy most outdoor physical activities and try to bicycle to work as much as possible. I have spent a lot of time with the Squamish Stream Keepers repairing wild fish habitats.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
The human stress response, or the constant societal pressure to be in sympathetic overdrive. The human stress response has many detrimental effects on the body - from depression and hormonal imbalance to all types of cancer. I consider stress the "silent killer."
What's something you would like people to know about you?
I have a client-centered primary health practice that always has people's best interests at heart. I do my very best to explain all of the treatments that I recommend and feel that I can work with any budget.
What's your favorite physical activity/sport?
I'm an avid bicyclist but have a true passion for board sports, such as wake boarding, snowboarding and surfing. Bicycling and board sports. What can I say, it's a tie!
What's one question that you wished people asked more often?
I wish that more people would focus on prevention and ask about lifestyle modifications for the prevention of disease. One of the things I do for my clients is supplement management. Many people are just taking way to many supplements.
