Story of Healing: Narcolepsy and cataplexy syndrome
Source: Health Action Magazine Spring 2008
In 1991, I was diagnosed with narcolepsy and cataplexy syndrome, where you momentarily lose all muscle control and it looks like you've passed out but you're actually conscious. I was on heavy-duty drugs for four months, uppers and downers that made it difficult to function. My health was going downhill.
I heard about an experimental treatment with L-tyrosene. Under the supervision of a university neurologist, I began following it and stayed on it for six years. There were no sideeffects. Being on this natural supplement (an amino acid) allowed me to get my license back, get better, and work. I now have three healthy kids.
The only thing that remains is, I must have a daily nap, an hour. If I miss it, I get incredibly tired. I went to acupuncturists and naturopaths as well. They told me that narcolepsy is about not having the right blood and nerve flow through the neck. Every once in a while, if I find myself extra tired, I'll do safe neck stretches.
To others with narcolepsy and cataplexy syndrome, there's hope out there.
