Story of Healing: Breathing Problems
Source: Health Action Magazine Spring 2008
After years of severe breathing problems, a specialist diagnosed me with asthma. When my husband and I moved from New Orleans to Vancouver, my breathing improved but I caught bronchitis and was subsequently told I had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. My situation worsened when I came down with pneumonia.
Feeling frustrated, my husband and I tried traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Dr. Weidong Yu of the Wellspring Clinic for Medicine gave me acupuncture. Within a few hours, my pneumonia had subsided into sniffles. After two more sessions, I was no longer having asthma symptoms. To test it out, I went on a four-hour bike ride. We rode on dusty trails, behind car exhaust, and I even had cigarette smoke blown in my face as a lady walked by.
My husband was begging to stop riding, and I wanted to keep going! I had my first exercise high in 10 years!
