Got arthritis or allergies? Suffer from digestive disorders, pain or prostate problems? Relief might just be a needle's length away.

Acupuncture has shed its "alternative" status and is now commonly prescribed to alleviate a variety of modern day ailments.

"Even one treatment can make a difference depending on a patient's problem," says Jeda Boughton, doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Evolve Nurturing Vitality clinic in Vancouver. She treats everything from low back pain, sprains and strains to endometriosis, infertility, and menstruation problems.

In 2006, 17 percent of Canadians reported having used acupuncture, a 10 percent jump since 1997, according to a May 2007 Fraser Institute report.
