Group argues against fluoridation of Lake Cowichan's drinking water

by Tyler Clarke - Lake Cowichan Gazette

Lake Cowichan's drinking water may not be as healthy as the public thinks, Burnaby-based Health Action Network Society president Jane Shaak argues. The fluoridation of the water, she said, must end.

"I'm sure a lot of people in Lake Cowichan don't know they're the only community on the island that has (fluoridated water)," she said.

Not only is Lake Cowichan the only place on Vancouver Island still adding fluoride to their drinking water, its citizens make up some of the only 3.7 per cent of British Columbians with access to fluoridated water. Prince George is currently the largest centre with fluoride added to its water supply, with no water fluoridation taking place on the Lower Mainland. The Health Action Network Society has a goal of educating the remaining communities adding fluoride into their water to stop doing so.

Have you signed on to save natural health products in Canada?

by NHPPA

As of Friday, May 21 2010, the Natural Health Products Protection Association (NHPPA) has 48, 027 petition signatures.

The Charter of Health Freedom is proposed legislation that gives Natural Health Products and Traditional Medicines their own Act..

The Charter protects our access to Natural Health Products and Traditional Medicines by creating separate legal category for them.  Rather than being deemed as dangerous drugs under the Food and Drugs Act, under the Charter Natural Health Products and Traditional Medicines are deemed to be safe, as they are in the United States

The Charter of Health Freedom offers an appropriate, healthy, beneficial, safe and well-rooted change for regulating the natural health community.  Canadians are protected by permitting unsafe products to be removed while at the same time ensuring that safe and effective treatments remain available.

British Columbians, protect our north coast from oil spills!

by ForestEthics

The Canadian government is deciding whether to allow a Tar Sands oil pipeline that would bring over 200 tankers per year to BC's coastal waters. The Enbridge pipeline would carry dirty Tar Sands oil from Alberta to Kitimat, where supertankers would carry the oil along the route where the Queen of the North sank.

Tell  the leaders of the Conservative, Liberal and New Democratic parties of Canada: Keep BC Tar Sands free.
