Draft Discussion Paper on Bill C-6, the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act

by Natural Health Products Protection Association

On January 29, 2009, the Government introduced Bill C-6, the Consumer Protection Act.  Since its introduction, the Natural Health Products Protection Association been contacted by many individuals and groups concerned that Bill C-6 is a re-introduction of Bill C-52, the companion Bill to Bill C-51.

In analysing Bill C-6, we believe that it is a bill that every Canadian should take the time to read and familiarize themselves with. If the Bill is passed, it will set a precedent that could reshape the relationship of the State to the citizen in some very negative and surprising ways. To facilitate an understanding of Bill C-6 we have prepared a Draft Discussion Paper which can be found at http://nhppa.org/?page_id=70

Bill C-6 also imposes new red tape and responsibilities upon small businesses, many who are already overburdened with regulations.

Looking for information on aortic dissection and breast cancer support groups in Okotoks, Alberta

by HANS staff

Two HANS members have requested that we put our feelers out for:

- information on aortic dissection. This gentleman intends to avoid surgery and seeks specific advice on healing.

- contacts of women who'd be interested in forming a holistically oriented breast cancer support group in Okotoks, Alberta.

Drop us an email if you can help with either of these... thanks!

Could GE Crop Regulations Be Any Weaker? Send Your Comments to the USDA before March 17th

by by True Food Network

In the waning months of the Bush Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a proposal to completely overhaul its regulation of genetically engineered crops, significantly weakening its oversight. No longer would USDA start from the assumption that a new GE crop must be regulated; and some could be exempted altogether. The proposed rule would virtually ensure that contamination of organic and conventional crops will become even more frequent, and even excuses the Agency from taking any action to remedy such contamination. And, the rule would continue to allow the dangerous practice of producing drugs and industrial chemicals in food crops grown in the open environment. In short, if implemented, the proposed rule would allow the wholesale deregulation of the agricultural biotechnology industry.

Over four years ago, USDA promised stricter oversight of genetically engineered crops; unfortunately, improvements considered early on have vanished and the regulations have instead become weaker. The proposed rule now has even more gaping holes than the regulations it is replacing, and creates a few new ones as well, resulting in more public exposure to untested and unlabeled genetically engineered foods. Instead of tightening controls to protect the public and the environment from contamination and harm, what USDA has offered further endangers the public's right to choose the foods families eat and farmers'  right to their chosen livelihoods.

To make matters worse, USDA published the rule before publishing the full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), as required by law, and in the absence of public review of the data needed to make regulatory recommendations. Clearly, there is something wrong with this picture. We are calling on the Obama Administration to reject the irresponsible Bush "anything goes" biotech policy. And we are requesting a moratorium on commercial planting of any new GE crops until comprehensive regulations are in place.

The good news is that USDA has reopened the comment period on the proposed rule and we are seizing this opportunity to ask the new Administration to take a fresh look at how GE crops are regulated. We urge our supporters to join us in demanding that the Agency release the EIS for public comment before it proceeds with any further rule-making or GE crop approvals. Public comments are being accepted through March 17, 2009.

Tell USDA to: (1) Withdraw the proposed rule; (2) Release the EIS for public review and comment and to be used as a basis for further rule-making; and (3) Suspend all new GE crop approvals until the above has been satisfactorily completed and unless and until GE crops are proven safe.

How Do You Hold Onto Your Energy and Keep Yourself Charged Up?

by Michael D'Alton, Michael D'Alton's School of Bio-Energy Healing

Increasing your energy through nutrition and exercise can be great; however, if you're losing energy faster than you're gaining it, you're in an energy drought!

When you think of your body as a battery, it's normal to feel charged up sometimes and run down at other times. If you let your personal battery get run down it takes a lot of energy and effort to achieve a new 'charge up'. Bio-Energy Practitioners understand that when they keep their energy high, it takes less effort to maintain than it does to keep charging up their battery when it runs all the way down.

If you know what your energy is on the energy scale, you're able to bring your energy up when it starts fading! Consider your energy on a scale from 1-100: 1 being the lowest energy and 100 being fully 'charged up'.

Through observation, you can maintain your energy levels between 75-100, achieving maximum efficiency of your energy and providing extra energy reserves for healing and rejuvenation (one of the secrets to assisting you in looking and feeling youthful!). When people allow their energy to drop below 50, it takes much more work to bring their energy up again. Maybe you've felt this in the past when your energy has dropped so low that it's hard to bounce back up again?

Having a proper understanding of the chakra system is a real advantage to holding your energy level above 75 for extended periods of time. There are seven main chakras in the body; they are the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow and crown chakras. Five of these chakras are positioned horizontally and most of us will exchange energy with each other through these five horizontal chakras. The problem with this is that the horizontal energy flow is a limited supply and when we feel someone draining our energy we fight back to hold onto it! As you begin to observe people you will notice where they are on the energy scale.

When you feel happy and enthusiastic, you resonate a vibration out around yourself of 85 or more. If somebody near you is feeling really low, at 30, either they will pull you down to meet them at their low vibration or they will rise up and meet you at your high vibration. The problem with this scenario is that our energy can go up or down depending on the people around us. You can't always choose who you spend your time with and there are times when it's your family members, loved ones or friends who are feeling low. It just isn't always possible to 'get rid' of everybody who drains you. The solution is to be aware that there is an infinite supply of energy available to you and this energy comes from the earth and the sun.

How do you tap into this infinite supply of energy? Remember, we still have two chakras unaccounted for. We said that five of the seven chakras flow horizontally. The remaining two chakras, the crown and the root, flow vertically for the purpose of drawing natural energy into the body. The crown chakra is positioned vertically above the head and draws high quality energy into the body from the sun. The root chakra is positioned at the base of the spine and absorbs good physical energy from the earth. Although it has become 'normal' to gain energy from each other, it is not 'natural'. The role of the horizontal chakras is to create different frequencies of energy for different organs of the body and for communication and expression of our creativity. The role of the vertical chakras is to allow the natural source of energy, infinite and boundless, to be available to each of us all the time.

Bio-Energy Practitioners experience intense training to master the vertical flow of energy. Here is an easy process to get you started: Focus your intention on this vertical flow of energy and you will increase your connection. Because what you focus on expands, you will enjoy immediate results.

Now that you know where to get your energy from, how do you maintain a high vibration of 75 or more? The answer is to consciously choose your frequency and understand that nobody can take your energy when you give it away freely. Never attempt to hold onto your energy because it becomes stagnant and can make us sick. Energy wants to flow, much like the nature of a river. When you allow the energy to flow vertically through you, you automatically raise the frequency of the people around you just as a rising tide lifts all boats. The next time you notice someone on the phone who is sounding very low, refuse to match them, stay in your high vibration and soon you will notice that they will go through a transformation.

My article would not be complete without giving some clarification on low energy. Why do people have low energy? The main reason people have low energy is because of pain. After treating over 10,000 clients in 14 years of private practice, I have found that people with low energy levels carry a lot of physical or emotional pain in their body. They lose most of their natural energy to maintain that pain. Of course, we generally don't like to feel pain so we suppress it deep within ourselves. The problem now is that we lose energy to the pain and we lose energy to keep the pain suppressed!

We all know that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself, but despite this sometime we have so much congestion in our energy field that healing is unable to take place. The purpose of a Bio-Energy Practitioner is to act as a catalyst and assist you in letting go of your blockages so that you can enjoy the pleasure of your natural free flowing energy. Your future health is not based on your past but on what you are creating from this moment forward!
