Rates of almost every cancer are steadily increasing in North America. Even the rates of diagnosis among young individuals in increasing - for example, it is not uncommon for women in their 20's or early 30's to be diagnosed with breast cancer. The truth is, we are ALL at risk of developing cancer - the question is not how will I know, but what can I do to PREVENT it. In this seminar, Dr. Gurm will present the latest information in research development to answer the following questions: What is the reason for increasing rates of cancer despite billions of dollars spent in cancer research every year? Most cancers develop 10-20 years before a diagnosis is made. How can you determine your risk? How does cancer develop and why are we all at risk of developing cancer? What impact does the environment, diet, lifestyle and hormones have on cancer development? What are the latest methods of early detection, screening and evaluation and what are the risks associated with common screening tools currently used in Canada (i.e. mammography)? What other methods are available for treatment of various cancers and what are the pros and cons of conventional vs integrative cancer therapies - can they be used in conjunction and how do you know when it is appropriate? Optional (but highly encouraged) pre-requisite: Heavy Metal & Environmental Toxicity Seminar.
