Friends Still Remember Don Unger
Approximately 15 years ago, one of our valued members, Don Unger, passed away from cancer. He was a passionate and vibrant man, leaving much sadness behind.
Every summer for 15 years, his good friends have remembered him, and remembered Health Action Network Society. We don't know the details of when, but approximately 20 members of Don's hockey club meet together to have a summer golf tournament, usually at the Salmon Arm Golf Club, and then without fanfare or ceremony, one of them, usually 'Rick', comes by the office when it's over with a bundle of cash in hand, and says 'Here. This is approximately $1,600, for the work of HANS. In memory of Don.' And then just as quietly, leaves again.
It is such a beautiful tribute to Don, and a heartfelt gesture to those of us at HANS who appreciate the love that went into it. We felt that we had to share, because good deeds like that are always nice to hear about, and never go unnoticed.
When we asked if it was OK to publish this little story, Rick Haines said 'Don was special to us and your organization gave him both comfort and guidance in his time of need so HAN is special to us also.'
Thank you to the Hockey/Golf Club that always remembers Don Unger ...
